Empty Bowls April 24th

Ok - so I am planning on us attending the Empty Bowls dinner on April 24th- that is our last week of school.  Please mark this on your calendar now!
Reminder that bowls are being made this Saturday in the ceramics studio from 10-5. Pizza is being delivered thanks to the Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley.  Please try to at least go for 45 minutes and make a bowl! Evey bowl is needed. John Padget who is in charge of this event will be there and is excited to speak with you about helping out at Empty Bowls event on April 24th.

Here's what he had to say in response to would there be a need for my art education students to help at the fundraising dinner?

"You bet, if the students are going to be working with the group this Saturday with Thad I can speak with them about our event and Barb Prather the director of the Northeast Iowa Food Bank and recipients of the money raised  at the event will be there at noon. (we bring pizza and some pop for the potters) So that you know we do this event every other year so that we do not burn people out and UNI Students make this possible because they are the biggest source of bowls ( we ask individuals, The Waterloo Center for the Arts, Hearst Center, The Cedar Falls Senior Center, Pursuing Picasso, Cedar valley Woodworkers and sometimes elementary students to make bowls) the building we use to hold event holds 350 people and we try to fill it so we need to have a lot of bowls. We also have live and silent auctions and serve a simple meal of soup and bread. The soups and breads are varied and donated by Churches and restaurants and breads from local businesses. Everything is donated so we were able to raise over $12,000 two years ago. The event is held at the UAW Hall in Waterloo I can provide directions if the students would like to volunteer it is not hard to find and we can find something for them to do if we know how many will want to help. Also I am more than happy to put together a letter on Cedar Valley United Way letterhead if students that help would like one for their portfolios or records as they get ready to graduate if you can supply me with their names. Thad had indicated there would be about 20 people there Saturday (that may include your students but if it does not please let me know so that I have enough pizza and pop for everyone. Please let me know if you have any questions."
