Confederate Statues and what we think should be done about them?

Here is a very short article about the confederate statues and one more that were mentioned in posts this week. This is an important conversation to have when thinking of public art, being an anti-racist teacher, and also including social justice in our curriculums.  What are your thoughts on what to do with confederate statues? Should they remain on public display? Should they be removed and put in a museum or cemetery, or jut be disposed of permanently?  How do we address this conversation with students?

Some people argue that we should leave these up as they are part of our history and we cannot erase our history and we need to keep them as reminders of the past. Others say that these statues are extremely offensive and we will offend, exclude, and never will be an inclusive country with these standing. What do you think of how this artist used light projection to display a new message on this controversial statue?
